Cooperation with the USA and Canada

The USA is Germany's most important scientific and technological cooperation partner among all industrialized countries. Over 50 bilateral cooperation agreements have been concluded. They form the basis of the extensive network of German-American research projects. The key areas of cooperation are space flight (through the ISS) and environmental technologies. There are also successful partnerships in the area of medicine. Germany's cooperation with Canada focuses on biotechnology and nanotechnology. In future, the subject of sustainability will be integrated more closely into the collaboration.

    Germany and the United States increase their cooperation

    The USA is Germany's most important scientific and technological cooperation partner among all industrial nations. Various joint initiatives have been launched. Every year, several thousand researchers and university students from Germany and the USA receive public funding for research and study visits to the partner country. The exchange of information has traditionally been intensive. All in all, an enormous number of joint or complementary projects are carried out in all fields of science and research.

    Canada

    Among the industrial nations, Canada is an increasingly important cooperation partner for Germany in the fields of education and research. Topics of mutual interest include environmental research, energy, biotechnology and medical research, nanotechnology, and Arctic research. A special focus is placed on including young researchers in bilateral cooperation activities.
